Friday, Jan. 26 to Jan. 28 2018
Rainy Camp is a song filled weekend celebrating the joy of singing together.
All Singers are welcome; from beginner to professional.
Friday Night:
The weekend kicks off on Friday night with dinner, followed by a big Song Circle.
The circle is very welcoming and non intimidating. When it is your turn you can choose to "Pass" and we will go on to the next person, or you can request a song, or sing a song. Songs with choruses are encouraged. (Solo performances are best saved for the Saturday Night Concert.)
Workshops:
The daytime of Saturday and most of Sunday are filled with workshops. Workshops are participant lead and run the gamut from topical song circles to instructional. A materials allowance of $10 is available for workshop leaders.
Subjects for workshops in the past years have covered a broad range; everything from Bawdy and Parodies to Gospel! They have covered topics such as Celtic, Sea Chanties, Broadway Tunes, French-Canadian, Songs of the Spirit, Stringed Instrument Ergonomics, Performing, and Songwriting.
Singing & Jamming:
Singing happens everywhere! In addition to workshops there are many sweet cubbies and breakout spaces for harmonizing and sharing songs. Although the primary focus of the weekend is singing, instrumental jams are common and space is available for them.
Spontaneous late night singing sessions go well into the wee hours both nights. They are held in rooms far away from the sleeping areas, so sleepers can get a good night's sleep and other hearty souls can sing until sunrise . . . which has indeed been known to happen.
Saturday Night:
Saturday night a participant concert takes center stage. The concert often features groups formed during the weekend. This is also a place where singers share the latest addition to their repertoire or songwriters share a new song.
Sunday & Closing Circle:
Sunday we have workshops in the morning and then a special closing circle immediately after lunch.
Location:
We will be at our new location this year! Lake Retreat & Conference Center in Ravensdale, WA (about 45 minutes from downtown Seattle). Lake Retreat has great acoustics, heated rooms, comfortable beds, and great food. Click here for more information about Lake Retreat
